IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS, IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD, AND VIRTUAL STUDIO SYSTEM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18584239 titled 'IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS, IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD, AND VIRTUAL STUDIO SYSTEM

Simplified Explanation: This patent application describes an image processing apparatus that can make the light source in a captured scene affect a background image in in-camera VFX video.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Acquires information about a light source in a real space captured by an image capture apparatus.
  • Generates an image based on a three-dimensional model of a virtual space to be displayed on a display apparatus in the real space.
  • The generated image shows the influence of light from the light source on the virtual space.

Potential Applications: This technology could be used in film production for creating realistic in-camera visual effects where the light source affects the background image.

Problems Solved: This technology solves the problem of seamlessly integrating real-world lighting effects into virtual environments in in-camera VFX video production.

Benefits:

  • Enhances the realism of in-camera visual effects.
  • Simplifies the process of creating realistic lighting effects in virtual environments.

Commercial Applications: The technology could be valuable in the film industry for creating visually stunning in-camera visual effects, potentially reducing the need for extensive post-production editing.

Prior Art: Readers interested in prior art related to this technology could start by researching patents in the field of image processing for visual effects in film production.

Frequently Updated Research: There may be ongoing research in the field of image processing for real-time visual effects in film production that could be relevant to this technology.

Questions about Image Processing Technology: 1. How does this technology improve the efficiency of creating in-camera visual effects? 2. What are the potential limitations of integrating real-world lighting effects into virtual environments using this technology?

Original Abstract Submitted

An image processing apparatus capable of causing the influence of a light source that is in a captured scene to affect a background image of in-camera VFX video, is disclosed. The apparatus acquires information relating to a light source existing in real space captured by an image capture apparatus and generates, based on a three-dimensional model of a virtual space, an image to be displayed on a display apparatus disposed in the real space. The apparatus generates the image in which an influence exerted by light from the light source on the virtual space has been affected.
