Management of Storage Space in Solid State Drives to Support Proof of Space Activities - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18582528 titled 'Management of Storage Space in Solid State Drives to Support Proof of Space Activities

The patent application describes an apparatus with a solid-state drive (SSD) that has firmware to manage spare storage resources for proof of space activities. The SSD has a host interface to receive read and write commands from an external host system, memory cells on at least one integrated circuit die, and a processing device to control executions of read and write commands.

  • The firmware in the SSD allocates storage resources not used by the host system for proof of space activities.
  • The firmware dynamically returns allocated storage resources when the host system needs additional storage resources.

Potential Applications: - Data storage systems for proof of space activities - Secure data storage solutions for sensitive information

Problems Solved: - Efficient management of storage resources for proof of space activities - Secure allocation and deallocation of storage resources

Benefits: - Enhanced data security for proof of space activities - Optimal utilization of storage resources - Dynamic allocation of storage resources based on system needs

Commercial Applications: Title: Secure Data Storage Solutions for Proof of Space Activities This technology can be used in industries such as aerospace, defense, and cybersecurity for secure data storage solutions for proof of space activities.

Prior Art: Readers can explore prior patents related to solid-state drives with firmware for managing storage resources in data storage systems.

Frequently Updated Research: Researchers are constantly improving firmware algorithms for efficient management of storage resources in solid-state drives for various applications.

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does the firmware in the SSD allocate storage resources for proof of space activities? 2. What are the potential security implications of using this technology for sensitive data storage?

Original Abstract Submitted

An apparatus with a solid state drive (SSD) having firmware to manage spare storage resources for proof of space activities. The SSD has a host interface configured to receive at least read commands and write commands from an external host system. The SSD has memory cells formed on at least one integrated circuit die, and a processing device configured to control executions of the read commands to retrieve data from the memory cells and executions the write commands to store data into the memory cells. The firmware is executable in the SSD to allocate storage resources not used or allocated by the host system to support proof of space activities and dynamically return the allocated storage resources when execution of a command from the host system needs additional storage resources.
