METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR IMAGE PROCESSING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18580332 titled 'METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR IMAGE PROCESSING

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for determining editing on a 3D mesh representing a segmentation of a 3D image, using an anisotropic weighting factor to adjust points on the mesh based on their direction relative to an editing plane.

  • Adjusting points on a 3D mesh based on an indication of an adjustment in an editing plane of the 3D image.
  • Using an anisotropic weighting factor to restrict adjustments to points in a specific direction relative to the editing plane.

Key Features and Innovation

  • Computer implemented method for editing a 3D mesh representing a segmentation of a 3D image.
  • Utilizes an anisotropic weighting factor to adjust points on the mesh based on their direction relative to an editing plane.

Potential Applications

This technology could be used in various industries such as medical imaging, computer graphics, and virtual reality for precise editing of 3D models.

Problems Solved

This technology addresses the need for accurate and controlled editing of 3D meshes to maintain the integrity of the original 3D image segmentation.

Benefits

  • Improved accuracy in editing 3D meshes.
  • Enhanced control over adjustments in specific directions.
  • Maintains the quality and accuracy of the original 3D image segmentation.

Commercial Applications

  • Medical imaging software for precise segmentation editing.
  • 3D modeling tools for detailed mesh adjustments.
  • Virtual reality applications for realistic 3D object manipulation.

Questions about the Technology

How does the anisotropic weighting factor impact the editing process?

The anisotropic weighting factor restricts adjustments to points on the 3D mesh based on their direction relative to the editing plane, allowing for more controlled and precise editing.

What are the potential implications of this technology in the field of computer graphics?

This technology could revolutionize the way 3D models are edited and manipulated in computer graphics, leading to more realistic and accurate representations.

Original Abstract Submitted

According to an aspect, there is provided a computer implemented method for determining editing to be applied to a three-dimensional, 3D, mesh, wherein the 3D mesh represents a segmentation of a 3D image, the method comprising, responsive to receiving an indication of an adjustment to be applied to a first position on the 3D mesh in an editing plane of the 3D image, adjusting a point on a boundary of the 3D mesh in an editing region of the 3D mesh using an anisotropic weighting factor that restricts the adjustment made to the point if the point lies in a first direction relative to the editing plane.
