CONNECTOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18574416 titled 'CONNECTOR

Simplified Explanation: The connector described in the patent application has a retainer that can move between temporary and complete locking positions. The retainer includes a locking lance and a complete locking portion to hold a terminal fitting in place securely.

  • The connector has a retainer with a locking lance and a complete locking portion.
  • The locking lance allows for the temporary insertion of the terminal fitting.
  • The complete locking portion securely holds the terminal fitting in place.
  • The retainer can move between temporary and complete locking positions.
  • The complete locking portion has higher stiffness than the locking lance.

Potential Applications: This technology can be used in various electrical and electronic devices that require secure connections, such as automotive components, consumer electronics, and industrial machinery.

Problems Solved: This technology addresses the issue of securely locking terminal fittings in place within a housing, ensuring reliable connections and preventing accidental disconnections.

Benefits: The connector provides a secure and reliable connection for terminal fittings, reducing the risk of electrical failures or malfunctions due to loose connections.

Commercial Applications: The technology can be applied in the manufacturing of various electronic devices, automotive components, and industrial machinery where secure electrical connections are essential for proper functioning.

Prior Art: Prior research in the field of electrical connectors and terminal fittings may provide insights into similar technologies or approaches to securing connections within housings.

Frequently Updated Research: Researchers may be exploring new materials or designs for connectors to improve the reliability and durability of electrical connections in various applications.

Questions about Connectors: 1. What are the key features of a reliable connector design? 2. How does the stiffness of the locking portions affect the overall performance of the connector?

Original Abstract Submitted

A connector includes a terminal fitting to be inserted into a terminal accommodation chamber of a housing and a retainer attached to the housing and displaceable between a temporary locking position and a complete locking position. The retainer is formed with a resiliently deformable locking lance arranged to face the terminal accommodation chambers at the temporary locking position and a complete locking portion arranged to face the terminal accommodation chamber at the complete locking position and having a higher stiffness than the locking lance. The locking lance allows insertion of the terminal fitting into the terminal accommodation chamber by being resiliently deformed and temporarily holds the terminal fitting in a retained state by locking the terminal fitting in the terminal accommodation chamber. The complete locking portion holds the terminal fitting in a retained state by locking the terminal fitting inserted into the terminal accommodation chamber.
