CONNECTOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18574416 titled 'CONNECTOR

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a connector with a retainer that can be temporarily locked or completely locked in place to secure a terminal fitting in a housing.

  • The retainer has a locking lance that temporarily holds the terminal fitting in place and a complete locking portion with higher stiffness for secure locking.
  • The locking lance allows for easy insertion of the terminal fitting into the housing's terminal accommodation chamber.
  • The complete locking portion ensures the terminal fitting is securely locked in place once inserted.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Resiliently deformable locking lance for temporary holding of terminal fitting.
  • Complete locking portion with higher stiffness for secure locking.
  • Easy insertion and secure locking of terminal fitting in housing.

Potential Applications: This technology can be used in various electrical and electronic devices that require secure connections, such as automotive components, consumer electronics, and industrial machinery.

Problems Solved: This technology addresses the need for a connector that can securely hold terminal fittings in place while allowing for easy insertion and removal when needed.

Benefits:

  • Secure locking of terminal fittings.
  • Easy insertion and removal.
  • Reliable connection in various applications.

Commercial Applications: This technology has potential commercial applications in the automotive, electronics, and industrial sectors where reliable and secure connections are essential for proper functioning of devices and equipment.

Prior Art: Readers can start their search for prior art related to this technology by looking into patents or publications on connectors, terminal fittings, and locking mechanisms in the field of electrical and electronic engineering.

Frequently Updated Research: Researchers may find updated studies on connector design, locking mechanisms, and materials used in the development of secure and reliable connections in various industries.

Questions about Connectors: 1. How does the locking lance in the connector ensure temporary holding of the terminal fitting? 2. What are the potential applications of this connector technology in the automotive industry?

Original Abstract Submitted

A connector includes a terminal fitting to be inserted into a terminal accommodation chamber of a housing and a retainer attached to the housing and displaceable between a temporary locking position and a complete locking position. The retainer is formed with a resiliently deformable locking lance arranged to face the terminal accommodation chambers at the temporary locking position and a complete locking portion arranged to face the terminal accommodation chamber at the complete locking position and having a higher stiffness than the locking lance. The locking lance allows insertion of the terminal fitting into the terminal accommodation chamber by being resiliently deformed and temporarily holds the terminal fitting in a retained state by locking the terminal fitting in the terminal accommodation chamber. The complete locking portion holds the terminal fitting in a retained state by locking the terminal fitting inserted into the terminal accommodation chamber.
