CURABLE SILICONE RUBBER COMPOSITIONS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18568765 titled 'CURABLE SILICONE RUBBER COMPOSITIONS

Abstract: This disclosure relates to curable silicone rubber compositions suitable for use in the manufacture of cured-in-place gaskets (CIPGs), silicone elastomers resulting from the cure of such compositions, and methods for making CIPGs from such compositions. The inclusion of a compound having at least two trialkoxysilyl groups, at least two dialkoxyalkylsilyl groups, or a mixture of two or more trialkoxysilyl groups and dialkoxyalkylsilyl groups per molecule provides CIPGs which show both good adhesion to aluminum and good compression set.

  • Simplified Explanation:

The patent application discusses curable silicone rubber compositions for making cured-in-place gaskets with good adhesion to aluminum and compression set.

  • Key Features and Innovation:

- Inclusion of compounds with specific silyl groups for improved adhesion and compression set. - Suitable for manufacturing CIPGs with enhanced properties.

  • Potential Applications:

- Automotive industry for sealing applications. - Electronics industry for gasket production.

  • Problems Solved:

- Improved adhesion to aluminum. - Enhanced compression set properties.

  • Benefits:

- Better performance in sealing applications. - Increased durability and reliability.

  • Commercial Applications:

- Title: "Advanced Silicone Rubber Compositions for Enhanced Gasket Manufacturing" - Potential commercial uses in automotive and electronics industries. - Market implications include improved product performance and reliability.

  • Questions about Silicone Rubber Compositions:

1. How do the specific silyl groups in the compounds contribute to the adhesion properties? - The specific silyl groups in the compounds form strong bonds with aluminum surfaces, enhancing adhesion.

2. What are the key advantages of using these silicone rubber compositions in gasket manufacturing? - The key advantages include improved adhesion to aluminum and better compression set properties, leading to enhanced gasket performance.

Original Abstract Submitted

This disclosure relates to curable silicone rubber compositions suitable for use in the manufacture of cured-in-place gaskets (CIPGs), silicone elastomers resulting from the cure of such compositions and methods for making CIPGs from such compositions. The inclusion of a compound having at least two trialkoxysilyl groups, at least two dialkoxyalkylsilyl groups or a mixture of two or more trialkoxysilyl groups, and dialkoxyalkylsilyl groups per molecule selected from: (i) (R)(R)Si—(W)—Si (R)(R); or (ii) 1,3,5-tris[3-((R)(R)Si)-D]-1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione where each Ris independently an alkoxy group having 1 to 6 carbons; each Ris independently Ror an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbons, z is 0 or 1; W is a linear or branched alkylene having 1 to 12 carbons; and D is an alkylene group having from 1 to 6 carbons; provides CIPGs which show both a good adhesion to aluminium and a good compression set.
