BACKHAUL LINK ISSUES IN AN INTEGRATED ACCESS AND BACKHAUL NETWORK - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18563326 titled 'BACKHAUL LINK ISSUES IN AN INTEGRATED ACCESS AND BACKHAUL NETWORK

The abstract of the patent application describes a method at an Integrated Access and Backhaul (IAB) node of an IAB network. The method involves detecting a link issue for data transmission over a backhaul link of the IAB network and sending a link failure notification to the donor Central Unit (CU) upon detecting the issue.

  • Detection of link issues in an IAB network
  • Sending link failure notifications to the donor CU
  • Inclusion of link identification and issue information in the notification
  • Causes of detected link issues such as link recovery failure, slow recovery, or recurring problems

Potential Applications: - Telecommunications networks - Wireless communication systems - Network management and optimization

Problems Solved: - Efficient detection and notification of link issues in IAB networks - Improved network performance and reliability - Timely resolution of backhaul link problems

Benefits: - Enhanced network reliability - Reduced downtime and data transmission interruptions - Streamlined network maintenance and troubleshooting processes

Commercial Applications: Title: "Enhanced Link Issue Detection and Notification System for IAB Networks" This technology can be applied in telecommunications companies, network infrastructure providers, and wireless communication service providers to improve the efficiency and reliability of their networks.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the method of detecting and notifying link issues in an IAB network contribute to overall network performance? - The method helps in identifying and addressing link issues promptly, leading to improved network reliability and reduced downtime.

2. What are the key advantages of sending link failure notifications to the donor CU in response to detected issues? - By notifying the donor CU about link problems, network operators can take timely actions to resolve issues and ensure smooth data transmission.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method at an Integrated Access and Backhaul, IAB, node of an IAB network is disclosed. The IAB network includes a donor Central Unit, CU. The method comprises detecting a link issue for transmission of data over a backhaul link of the IAB network and in response to detecting the link issue, sending a link failure notification to the donor CU. The link failure notification includes link identification information identifying the backhaul link and link issue information relating to the detected link issue including information associated with a cause of the detected link issue. A cause of the detected link issue may be one of link recovery failure, slow recovery of link issue or recurring link issues.
