INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS, INFORMATION PROCESSING SYSTEM, AND INFORMATION PROCESSING METHOD - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18561270 titled 'INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS, INFORMATION PROCESSING SYSTEM, AND INFORMATION PROCESSING METHOD

The patent application describes an information processing apparatus designed to autonomously control a robot arm supporting a medical device based on the position and posture of a surgical tool recognized by an event-based vision sensor.

  • The apparatus includes a position/posture recognition unit that identifies the position and posture of the surgical tool using event data from the vision sensor.
  • A control instruction unit generates control information to manipulate the robot arm in response to the recognized position and posture of the surgical tool.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be applied in surgical robotics to enhance precision and speed of procedures. - It can also be used in industrial automation for tasks requiring accurate positioning and manipulation.

Problems Solved: - Enables faster and more precise control of robot arms in response to surgical tool movements. - Enhances the efficiency and accuracy of medical procedures and industrial tasks.

Benefits: - Improved speed and accuracy in robot arm control. - Enhanced safety and precision in surgical and industrial applications.

Commercial Applications: Title: "Enhancing Robot Arm Control for Medical and Industrial Applications" This technology can be utilized in medical robotics for minimally invasive surgeries, as well as in manufacturing for tasks requiring precise manipulation and positioning.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the event-based vision sensor improve the control of the robot arm? - The event-based vision sensor allows for real-time detection of changes in luminance, enabling quick and accurate responses in controlling the robot arm.

2. What are the potential cost savings associated with implementing this technology in surgical procedures? - Implementing this technology can lead to reduced procedure times and improved outcomes, potentially lowering overall healthcare costs.

Original Abstract Submitted

To autonomously control a robot arm at a higher speed. An information processing apparatus according to an embodiment includes a position/posture recognition unit () configured to recognize a position and a posture of a surgical tool on the basis of event data input from an event-based vision sensor (EVS) including a plurality of pixels that detects a change in luminance of light from a light emitting unit provided in the surgical tool as an event, and a control instruction unit () configured to generate control information for controlling a robot arm that supports a medical device including the EVS on the basis of the recognized position and posture of the surgical tool.
