HANDOVER SIGNALING FOR QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE MEASUREMENTS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18556558 titled 'HANDOVER SIGNALING FOR QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE MEASUREMENTS

The abstract describes a method of handover signaling for quality of experience (QoE) measurement in a wireless communication network.

  • The method involves transmitting configuration parameters for QoE measurement and radio conditions measurement from a first base station to a user equipment.
  • The first base station receives QoE measurement reports and radio conditions measurement reports from the user equipment based on the configuration parameters.
  • The first base station also receives information elements associated with QoE support at a second base station from the second base station.
  • Based on the QoE measurement reports, radio conditions measurement reports, and the values of the information elements, the first base station determines to handover the user equipment from the first base station to the second base station.

Potential Applications: - This technology can be applied in cellular networks to improve the quality of user experience during handovers between base stations. - It can be used in 5G networks to enhance seamless connectivity and optimize network performance.

Problems Solved: - Addressing issues related to handover performance and quality of experience in wireless communication networks. - Improving network efficiency and user satisfaction during handover processes.

Benefits: - Enhanced user experience with smoother handovers and better network performance. - Increased network reliability and efficiency in managing handover procedures.

Commercial Applications: Title: Enhanced Handover Signaling for Improved QoE in Wireless Networks This technology has commercial applications in telecommunications companies, network equipment providers, and mobile device manufacturers. Questions about Handover Signaling for QoE Measurement: 1. How does this method improve the quality of experience for users during handovers? 2. What are the key factors considered in determining the handover decision between base stations?

Original Abstract Submitted

A method of handover signaling for quality of experience (QoE) measurement includes transmitting, by a first base station (BS) to a user equipment (UE), one or more messages that include first configuration parameters for QoE measurement and reporting, and second configuration parameters for radio conditions measurement and reporting, receiving, by the first BS from the UE one or more QoE measurement reports based on the first configuration parameters, and one or more radio conditions measurement reports based on the second configuration parameters; receiving, by the first BS from a second BS, an application protocol message with one or more information elements (IEs) associated with QoE support at the second BS; and determining, by the first BS, to handover the UE from the first BS to the second BS, based on: the QoE measurement reports, the radio conditions measurement reports and the values of the one or more IEs.
