Service Execution Handling - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18550543 titled 'Service Execution Handling

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a method for handling the execution of a service in a network, specifically focusing on distributing network traffic among different network nodes based on their capacity.

  • The method is performed by a first network node, which can be a network function (NF) node of a service consumer or a service communication proxy (SCP) node acting as an SCP between the NF node and NF nodes of a service producer.
  • The method is triggered by an event signaling the execution of the service.
  • If certain configuration criteria are met, the method involves distributing network traffic for executing the service among the second NF nodes based on their capacity.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in various network services where efficient distribution of network traffic among different nodes is crucial for optimal performance.

Problems Solved

1. Efficient distribution of network traffic among network nodes based on their capacity. 2. Streamlining the execution of services in a network environment.

Benefits

1. Improved performance and scalability of network services. 2. Enhanced resource utilization within the network. 3. Increased reliability and fault tolerance in service execution.

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimizing network traffic distribution in cloud computing environments Enhancing the efficiency of virtualized network functions in telecommunications networks

Possible Prior Art

Prior art in the field of network function virtualization (NFV) and service function chaining (SFC) may have addressed similar concepts of distributing network traffic among different nodes based on certain criteria.

Unanswered Questions

How does this method handle network congestion and prioritize traffic accordingly?

The abstract does not provide details on how the method addresses network congestion and prioritizes traffic based on specific criteria.

What types of services or applications would benefit most from this method of network traffic distribution?

The abstract does not specify the types of services or applications that would benefit the most from this method of network traffic distribution.

Original Abstract Submitted

There is provided a method for handling execution of a service in a network. The method is performed by a first network node. The first network node is a first network function (NF) node of a service consumer or a first service communication proxy (SCP) node that is configured to operate as an SCP between the first NF node and second NF nodes of a service producer for providing the service. The method is performed in response to an event that signals that the service is to be executed. The method comprises, if a first configuration criterion of the first NF node and/or a second configuration criterion of at least one of the second NF nodes is met, identifying () that network traffic for executing the service is to be distributed among the second NF nodes according to a capacity of one or more of the second NF nodes.
