OBTAINING BLOOD PRESSURE MEASUREMENTS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18537541 titled 'OBTAINING BLOOD PRESSURE MEASUREMENTS

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes methods, systems, and media for determining blood pressure measurements using photoplethysmography (PPG) signals obtained from a wearable device worn by a user.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Obtaining PPG signals from a wearable device.
  • Determining when a blood pressure measurement is being taken by an external device.
  • Storing the obtained blood pressure measurement for future use by the wearable device.

Potential Applications: This technology could be used in healthcare settings, fitness monitoring devices, and remote patient monitoring systems.

Problems Solved: This technology addresses the need for convenient and accurate blood pressure monitoring without the need for traditional blood pressure cuffs.

Benefits:

  • Non-invasive blood pressure monitoring.
  • Continuous monitoring without user intervention.
  • Improved data collection and analysis for healthcare professionals.

Commercial Applications: Potential commercial applications include wearable health devices, telemedicine platforms, and fitness trackers.

Prior Art: Prior art related to this technology may include research on wearable health monitoring devices and non-invasive blood pressure measurement techniques.

Frequently Updated Research: Researchers may be exploring advancements in PPG signal processing algorithms for more accurate blood pressure measurements.

Questions about Blood Pressure Monitoring Technology: 1. How does this technology improve the user experience compared to traditional blood pressure monitoring methods? 2. What are the potential limitations or challenges associated with using PPG signals for blood pressure measurements?

Original Abstract Submitted

Methods, systems, and media for determining blood pressure measurements are provided. In some embodiments, a method for determining blood pressure measurements comprises: obtaining a set of photoplethysmography (PPG) signals using a wearable device worn by a user; determining that a blood pressure of the user is being measured by a device unassociated with the wearable device based at least in part on the set of PPG signals; responsive to determining that the blood pressure of the user is being measured by the device unassociated with the wearable device, obtaining an indication of a blood pressure measurement obtained by the device unassociated with the wearable device; and storing the obtained indication of the blood pressure measurement for future use by the wearable device.
