IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18537247 titled 'IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

The image forming apparatus described in the abstract includes a heater with two heating members, one longer than the other in a widthwise direction. The apparatus is designed to perform image formation on different recording materials of varying lengths.

  • The first heating member is longer than the second heating member in a widthwise direction.
  • The apparatus can handle a first recording material shorter than the second heating member and a second recording material shorter than the first heating member but longer than the second heating member.
  • Different electric powers are supplied to the first heating member based on the combination of recording materials passing through the nip.
  • The first electric power is used when two sheets of the first recording material pass through the nip, while a smaller second electric power is used when the first sheet is the first recording material and the second sheet is the second recording material.

Potential Applications: - Printing industry for efficient image formation on different types of recording materials. - Office environments for high-quality document printing on various paper sizes.

Problems Solved: - Efficient and precise image formation on different recording materials. - Energy optimization based on the combination of recording materials passing through the nip.

Benefits: - Versatile image forming capabilities. - Energy-efficient operation. - Enhanced printing quality on various materials.

Commercial Applications: Title: Versatile Image Forming Apparatus for Printing Industry Efficiency This technology can be used in commercial printers, photocopiers, and multifunction devices to improve printing efficiency and quality.

Questions about Image Forming Apparatus: 1. How does the length difference between the two heating members impact the image formation process? The length difference allows the apparatus to handle different sizes of recording materials efficiently.

2. What are the advantages of using variable electric powers based on the combination of recording materials? Adjusting the electric power optimizes energy consumption and ensures proper heating for different materials.

Original Abstract Submitted

An image forming apparatus includes a heater including first and second heating members, the first heating member is longer than the second heating member in a widthwise direction. The image forming apparatus performs image formation on a first recording material shorter than the second heating member and a second recording material shorter than the first heating member and longer than the second heating member. In a case that first and second sheet are the first recording material, an electric power supplied to the first heating member is a first electric power while the first sheet passes through a nip, and in a case that the first sheet is the first recording material and the second sheet is the second recording material, the electric power is a second electric power smaller than the first electric power while the first sheet passes through the nip.
