DATA LOGGING DEVICE FOR AN ELECTRIC AIRCRAFT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18536514 titled 'DATA LOGGING DEVICE FOR AN ELECTRIC AIRCRAFT

Simplified Explanation

This patent application describes a data logging device for an electric aircraft with a charging port for on-ground charging. The device includes a data storage unit, data interface, trigger signal interface, and control unit. The control unit detects the connection of the charging port to a ground-side charger and collects inflight data during flight, saving it to the data storage unit. When the aircraft is on the ground for charging, the control unit sends the saved inflight data to the charger for further processing.

Key Features and Innovation

  • Data logging device for electric aircraft with on-ground charging capability
  • Control unit detects connection to ground-side charger and collects inflight data
  • Inflight data is saved to aircraft-side data storage unit for later retrieval
  • Data interface and trigger signal interface facilitate communication with ground-side charger
  • Control unit sends inflight data to charger for processing during on-ground charging

Potential Applications

The technology can be used in electric aircraft for efficient data logging and management during flight and on-ground charging. It can also be applied in other electric vehicles with similar charging systems.

Problems Solved

  • Efficient data collection and storage during flight and on-ground charging
  • Seamless communication between the aircraft and ground-side charger
  • Streamlined data transfer process for analysis and maintenance purposes

Benefits

  • Improved data management for electric aircraft
  • Enhanced efficiency in inflight data collection and storage
  • Simplified communication with ground-side chargers
  • Facilitates analysis and maintenance of electric propulsion systems

Commercial Applications

The technology can be utilized in the aviation industry for electric aircraft data management systems. It can also be integrated into electric vehicle charging infrastructure for improved data handling and analysis.

Questions about the Technology

How does the control unit detect the connection to the ground-side charger?

The control unit detects the connection based on a trigger signal received from the ground-side charger via the trigger signal interface.

What are the potential applications of this data logging device beyond electric aircraft?

The device can also be used in other electric vehicles with charging ports for efficient data logging and management.

Original Abstract Submitted

A data logging device for an electric aircraft having charging port for on-ground charging of energy storage system of electric propulsion system of aircraft. Device includes an aircraft-side data storage unit, data interface, trigger signal interface, and control unit. Control unit is configured to detect connection of charging port to ground-side charger based on trigger signal received by control unit from ground-side charger via trigger signal interface. Control unit is configured wherein a state of flight of electric aircraft, control unit collects inflight data from electric aircraft via data interface and saves inflight data to aircraft-side data storage unit. Control unit is also configured wherein a state of on-ground charging of electric aircraft, control unit, on receipt of trigger signal, sends inflight data saved on aircraft-side data storage unit via data interface to charger for forwarding to at least one of a data transmitter and a ground-side data storage unit.
