PRINTING APPARATUS, CONTROL METHOD, AND COMPUTER-READABLE STORAGE MEDIUM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18534846 titled 'PRINTING APPARATUS, CONTROL METHOD, AND COMPUTER-READABLE STORAGE MEDIUM

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a printing apparatus with a cover portion that opens and closes, detection sensors for the cover and sheet, and a control unit that interrupts printing if the cover is open during operation.

  • The printing apparatus includes a printing unit, conveying mechanism, cover portion, detection sensors, and a control unit.
  • The first detection sensor monitors the open and closed states of the cover portion, while the second detection sensor detects the presence of a sheet on the conveyance path.
  • The control unit halts printing if the cover is detected as open during operation and returns the sheet to a predetermined position if the cover is closed afterward.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Integration of detection sensors for cover and sheet monitoring.
  • Automatic interruption of printing if cover is open to prevent errors.
  • Sheet return mechanism to ensure proper printing process.

Potential Applications: The technology can be used in various printing devices, such as printers, copiers, and multifunction devices.

Problems Solved:

  • Prevents printing errors caused by an open cover during operation.
  • Ensures the sheet is properly positioned for printing.

Benefits:

  • Improved printing accuracy and efficiency.
  • Reduces the risk of damaged prints due to cover interference.

Commercial Applications: This technology can be valuable in office settings, print shops, and manufacturing facilities where accurate and uninterrupted printing is essential for operations.

Prior Art: Readers can explore prior patents related to printing apparatus with cover sensors and sheet detection mechanisms to understand the evolution of this technology.

Frequently Updated Research: Stay updated on advancements in printing technology, particularly in the integration of sensors for improved printing processes.

Questions about Printing Apparatus: 1. How does the control unit determine when to interrupt the printing operation? 2. What are the potential implications of using this technology in high-volume printing environments?

Original Abstract Submitted

A printing apparatus, comprising a printing unit that performs printing on a sheet, a conveying mechanism that conveys the sheet, a cover portion that opens and closes with respect to an apparatus body, a first detection sensor that detects an open state and a closed state of the cover portion, a second detection sensor that detects the sheet on a conveyance path for the sheet, and a control unit that controls a printing operation including printing and conveying the sheet, wherein the control unit interrupts the printing operation if the first detection sensor detects the open state during the printing operation and controls the conveying mechanism, based on the second detection sensor, to return the sheet to a predetermined position if the first detection sensor detects the closed state afterward.
