ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18529169 titled 'ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS

The abstract describes an electronic device with plug connectors and receptacle connectors for connecting components. A receptacle connector includes a cavity for a plug connector, a latch, a spring, and a lever arm.

  • The latch transitions between engaged and un-engaged configurations, retaining the plug connector in the cavity when engaged.
  • The spring helps retain the latch in the engaged configuration.
  • The lever arm moves the latch to the un-engaged configuration in response to pressure from a tool.

Potential Applications: - Electronic devices such as smartphones, laptops, or tablets - Industrial equipment with electronic components - Automotive systems requiring secure connections

Problems Solved: - Ensures secure connections between components - Facilitates easy and quick disconnection when needed

Benefits: - Enhanced safety by preventing accidental disconnections - Improved efficiency in connecting and disconnecting components - Durability and longevity of electronic devices

Commercial Applications: Title: "Secure Receptacle Connectors for Electronic Devices" This technology can be used in various industries such as consumer electronics, automotive, and industrial manufacturing. It can improve the reliability and safety of electronic connections, leading to better product performance and user experience.

Questions about Secure Receptacle Connectors for Electronic Devices: 1. How does the latch mechanism work to retain the plug connector? The latch transitions between engaged and un-engaged configurations, securing the plug connector in the cavity when engaged. 2. What are the potential commercial applications of this technology? This technology can be applied in consumer electronics, automotive systems, and industrial equipment to ensure secure and reliable connections.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device can include plug connectors and receptacle connectors for providing connections between components of the electronic device. A receptacle connector for an electronic device can include a cavity configured to receive a plug connector; a latch extending at least partially into the cavity; a spring coupled to the latch; and a lever arm coupled to the spring. The latch can be configured to transition between an engaged configuration and an un-engaged configuration. The latch can be configured to retain the plug connector in the cavity when the latch is in the engaged configuration. The spring can be configured to retain the latch in the engaged configuration. The lever arm can be configured to transition the latch to the un-engaged configuration in response to pressure from a tool.
