The electronic device may include: a display panel including a display area, with photo sensors and pixels disposed in the display area; a panel driving circuit configured to cause pixels located in a light emitting area of the display area to emit light; a sensing circuit configured to sense signals of the photo sensors located in a light receiving area of the display area; a memory configured to store at least one application; and a processor configured to vary a setting of at least one of the light emitting area and the light receiving area depending on the application executed with reference to the memory. The electronic device and the method of driving the electronic device may provide a biometric authentication function and a biometric signal measuring function.
