WATERPROOF TERMINAL BLOCK - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18521477 titled 'WATERPROOF TERMINAL BLOCK

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a waterproof terminal block comprising a housing, terminals, a packing, and a holder. The housing has a cutting blade part to cut connecting parts of the packing during assembly.

  • Housing with cutting blade part
  • Terminals inserted into terminal insertion holes
  • Packing with sealing parts connected by connecting parts
  • Holder to hold the packing in place

Potential Applications

The waterproof terminal block can be used in outdoor electrical installations, marine applications, and any other environment where water resistance is required.

Problems Solved

This technology solves the problem of water ingress in electrical connections, ensuring reliable performance in wet conditions.

Benefits

The waterproof terminal block provides a secure and watertight connection for electrical terminals, preventing damage and ensuring safety in damp environments.

Potential Commercial Applications

Commercial applications for this technology include outdoor lighting systems, boat wiring, and industrial machinery exposed to moisture.

Possible Prior Art

Prior art may include existing waterproof terminal blocks with similar features, such as cutting mechanisms for sealing parts during assembly.

Unanswered Questions

How does the cutting blade part ensure a secure connection?

The cutting blade part is designed to cleanly cut the connecting parts of the packing, ensuring a tight seal when the terminals are inserted. This process may raise questions about the durability of the cut edges and the long-term effectiveness of the seal.

Are there any limitations to the waterproofing capabilities of this terminal block?

While the abstract highlights the waterproof features of the terminal block, it does not provide specific details on the level of water resistance or any potential weaknesses in the design that could compromise its effectiveness in extreme conditions.

Original Abstract Submitted

A waterproof terminal block includes a housing, a plurality of terminals configured to be inserted into and attached to the plurality of terminal insertion holes of the housing, a packing, and a holder fitted into a holder configured to be assembled to the housing and hold the packing. The housing has a cutting blade part at a partition wall partitioning an upper section of the housing into a plurality of packing fitting recess. The packing is integrally formed by connecting sealing parts of the plurality of sealing parts with a connecting parts. The cutting blade part is configured to cut the connecting parts when the plurality of terminals, the packing, and the holder are assembled to the housing.
