AUDIO APPARATUS AND METHOD THEREFOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18520818 titled 'AUDIO APPARATUS AND METHOD THEREFOR

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a system where audio data for an audio scene is generated, including data for audio sources and acoustic objects. Another apparatus receives this signal and generates audio data for acoustic objects in the scene based on the received data. The audio scene is then rendered with the object audio data included.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Generation of audio data for acoustic objects in an audio scene based on received data.
  • Rendering of the audio scene with object audio data included.

Potential Applications: This technology could be used in virtual reality experiences, gaming, audio production, and immersive audio environments.

Problems Solved: This technology allows for more realistic and immersive audio experiences by accurately representing the audio emitted by acoustic objects in an audio scene.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced realism in audio scenes.
  • Improved immersion for users in virtual environments.
  • More dynamic and interactive audio experiences.

Commercial Applications: The technology could be utilized in virtual reality gaming, audio production software, theme park attractions, and live events to create more engaging and realistic audio experiences for users.

Prior Art: Prior research in the field of spatial audio rendering and object-based audio processing may provide insights into similar technologies.

Frequently Updated Research: Researchers are constantly exploring new techniques for spatial audio rendering and object-based audio processing to enhance audio experiences in various applications.

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does this technology improve audio realism in virtual environments? 2. What are the potential limitations of this technology in complex audio scenes?

Original Abstract Submitted

A first audio apparatus generates a data signal comprising data for an audio scene, the data comprising input audio source data for at least a first audio source and acoustic object data for at least one acoustic object in the audio scene, the acoustic object data comprising acoustic coupling data and spatial property data for the acoustic object. A second audio apparatus comprises a receiver () for receiving the signal. A generator () generates object audio source data for an object audio source representing audio emitted in the audio scene by the acoustic object from coupling of audio from the first audio source. The generator () is arranged to generate the object audio source data in response to the acoustic coupling data, the spatial property data, and the input audio source data. A renderer () renders the audio scene, the rendering including rendering the object audio source data.
