COUPLING ASSEMBLY, COUPLING SYSTEM AND LINKS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18517631 titled 'COUPLING ASSEMBLY, COUPLING SYSTEM AND LINKS

Simplified Explanation

The coupling assembly described in the abstract is a mechanism that allows for pivotable movement between an open and closed position, with a latching arrangement to secure the closed position. The assembly consists of arcuate coupling members connected by a hinge arrangement, with a circumferential gap between the ends of the members.

  • The coupling assembly includes a coupling body defined by first and second arcuate coupling members.
  • The first and second arcuate coupling members are pivotally connected at their second ends by a hinge arrangement.
  • The arcuate coupling members can move between an open and closed position, surrounding a central axis of the coupling body in the closed position.
  • A latching arrangement is used to secure the first ends of the arcuate coupling members together in the closed position.

Potential Applications

This technology could be used in various industries such as automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing for connecting components that require pivotable movement and secure latching.

Problems Solved

This technology solves the problem of securely connecting components that need to move pivotally while ensuring they remain in a closed position when necessary.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include increased efficiency in connecting and securing components, ease of use, and versatility in applications across different industries.

Potential Commercial Applications

The potential commercial applications of this technology could include use in vehicle manufacturing for securing parts that require pivotable movement, in aerospace for connecting components that need to be latched securely, and in machinery for efficient assembly processes.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art for this technology could be traditional hinge and latch mechanisms used in various industries for connecting and securing components.

Original Abstract Submitted

A coupling assembly includes a coupling body defined by first and second arcuate coupling members each having a first end and a second end, a hinge arrangement for pivotally connecting the second ends of the first and second arcuate coupling members together such that the first and second arcuate coupling members are pivotally moveable between an open position and a closed position, the first and second arcuate coupling members surrounding a central axis of the coupling body when in the closed position, the first and second arcuate coupling members defining a circumferential gap between the second ends, the hinge arrangement including first and second links that are parallel and that are spaced-apart from one another, and a latching arrangement for latching the first ends of the first and second arcuate coupling members together to latch the first and second arcuate coupling members in the closed position.
