LIGHT EMITTING DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18517622 titled 'LIGHT EMITTING DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a light emitting device with a substrate, a light source, a covering member, and a circuit with a drive circuit and a protection circuit connected in parallel.

  • The device includes a substrate with a light source and a covering member surrounding the light source.
  • The circuit on the substrate includes a drive circuit to operate the light source and a protection circuit with two protection elements connected in series with reversed polarities.

Potential Applications

The technology could be used in various lighting applications such as LED lights, displays, and indicators.

Problems Solved

The protection circuit helps prevent damage to the light source from power surges or other electrical issues.

Benefits

The device provides a reliable and durable lighting solution with added protection for the light source.

Potential Commercial Applications

The technology could be utilized in automotive lighting, consumer electronics, and general lighting products.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be similar light emitting devices with protection circuits for the light source.

Unanswered Questions

How does the protection circuit specifically prevent damage to the light source?

The protection circuit likely diverts excess current away from the light source, preventing it from being overloaded.

What materials are used in the covering member to ensure proper protection of the light source?

The covering member may be made of materials such as plastic or glass to provide physical protection and insulation for the light source.

Original Abstract Submitted

A light emitting device includes: a substrate having a first surface; a light source disposed on the first surface; a covering member disposed on the first surface and surrounding the light source in a plan view; and a circuit disposed on the substrate. The circuit includes a drive circuit, and a protection circuit that is connected in parallel to the drive circuit. The drive circuit is configured to drive the light source, and the protection circuit includes first and second protection elements that are connected in series with reversed polarities. The covering member covers the first and second protection elements.
