APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR DETECTING NUMBER OF ARTICLES AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18517220 titled 'APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR DETECTING NUMBER OF ARTICLES AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE

Simplified Explanation

The apparatus described in the patent application is designed to detect the number of articles in a shopping container by using image classification techniques. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • The apparatus includes a device to detect a shopping container in an image.
  • It uses a classifier to classify the articles in the container and determine the number of articles.
  • If the number of articles is above a certain threshold, it sets the predicted number of articles as the classification result.
  • The number of articles is determined based on the relationship between the classification result and the threshold.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in retail settings to automate inventory management and improve stock tracking processes.

Problems Solved

This technology solves the problem of manually counting articles in shopping containers, which can be time-consuming and prone to errors.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include increased efficiency in inventory management, reduced labor costs, and improved accuracy in counting articles.

Potential Commercial Applications

One potential commercial application of this technology could be in grocery stores or warehouses where large quantities of articles need to be counted and tracked.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art for this technology could be automated checkout systems that use image recognition to identify products for purchase.

Unanswered Questions

How accurate is the classification of articles in different types of shopping containers?

The patent application does not provide information on the accuracy of the classification process in various types of shopping containers.

What is the processing time required for detecting and classifying the articles in a shopping container?

The patent application does not specify the processing time needed for the apparatus to detect and classify the articles in a shopping container.

Original Abstract Submitted

An apparatus for detecting a number of articles, the apparatus including: a first detecting device configured to detect a shopping container in an image; a classifying device configured to classify an image of articles in the shopping container by using a classifier, and determine the number of articles corresponding to a classification result; and a number setting device configured to take the number of articles determined by the classifying device as a prediction value of the number of articles in the shopping container when the number of articles determined by the classifying device is greater than a first threshold. In this disclosure, the number of the articles in the shopping container is determined by using a relationship between the number of the articles to which the classification result of the image corresponds and the threshold.
