IMAGING APPARATUS, METHOD FOR CONTROLLING THE SAME, AND STORAGE MEDIUM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18512752 titled 'IMAGING APPARATUS, METHOD FOR CONTROLLING THE SAME, AND STORAGE MEDIUM

Simplified Explanation

The imaging apparatus described in the patent application is designed to detect and determine the position of a subject in an image using two different detection units. Here is a simplified explanation of the abstract:

  • The apparatus acquires an image and detects a subject in it using a first detection unit.
  • Information is then acquired from a measurement unit attached to the subject to determine the subject's position.
  • A second detection unit is used to detect the position of the subject based on the acquired information.
  • A determination unit decides whether to prioritize the first detection unit or the second detection unit based on the reliability of the detection results.
      1. Potential Applications
  • Medical imaging for patient positioning during procedures
  • Surveillance systems for tracking and identifying individuals
      1. Problems Solved
  • Improving accuracy in subject detection and positioning
  • Enhancing reliability of imaging systems
      1. Benefits
  • Increased precision in determining subject position
  • Enhanced performance of imaging apparatus
      1. Potential Commercial Applications
        1. Enhanced Imaging Systems for Subject Positioning
      1. Possible Prior Art

There may be existing patents or technologies related to image processing and subject detection in various fields such as healthcare, security, and robotics.

        1. Unanswered Questions
      1. How does the apparatus prioritize between the first and second detection units in real-time scenarios?

The determination unit uses a predetermined value to decide which detection unit to prioritize based on the reliability of the detection results.

      1. What types of information can be acquired from the measurement unit attached to the subject?

The information acquisition unit can gather various data such as location, movement, or physiological parameters from the measurement unit to determine the subject's position accurately.

Original Abstract Submitted

An imaging apparatus includes an acquisition unit configured to acquire an image, a first detection unit configured to detect a subject in the image, an information acquisition unit configured to acquire information from a measurement unit attached to the subject, a second detection unit configured to detect a position of the subject based on the information acquired by the information acquisition unit, and a determination unit configured to prioritize either the first detection unit or the second detection unit to determine the position of the subject. In a case where the determination unit determines that reliability of a detection result by the first detection unit is lower than a predetermined value, the determination unit prioritizes a detection result by the second detection unit to determine the position of the subject.
