This application provides a service data transmission method and a communication apparatus. The method includes: An application server obtains first information of a multicast broadcast service session; and the application server sends data of a service over the multicast broadcast service session based on the first information. In the foregoing technical solution, the application server may determine, based on related information (for example, information of a terminal in the multicast broadcast service session, or information of the multicast broadcast service session) of the multicast broadcast service session, that the data of the service can be transmitted over the multicast broadcast service session. In this way, the data of the service can be transmitted flexibly over the multicast broadcast service session.
