SHEET CONVEYANCE APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18503577 titled 'SHEET CONVEYANCE APPARATUS AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The sheet conveyance apparatus described in the abstract is a device that can detect double feeding of sheets and control the conveyance speed of the sheets accordingly. Here is a simplified explanation of the patent application:

  • Sheet conveyance unit: responsible for moving sheets through the apparatus
  • Double feeding detection unit: detects if more than one sheet is being fed at a time
  • First sheet detection unit: detects the presence of a sheet
  • Control unit: regulates the conveyance speed of the sheets based on detection results
      1. Potential Applications

This technology can be used in printers, scanners, and other paper-handling devices to prevent double feeding and ensure smooth operation.

      1. Problems Solved

This technology solves the issue of double feeding, which can lead to paper jams and errors in printing or scanning.

      1. Benefits

The benefits of this technology include improved efficiency, reduced errors, and increased reliability in paper handling processes.

      1. Potential Commercial Applications

This technology can be applied in office equipment, industrial printers, and document management systems to enhance productivity and reduce maintenance costs.

      1. Possible Prior Art

Prior art in this field may include similar sheet conveyance systems in printers and scanners, but this specific combination of double feeding detection and speed control may be unique.

        1. Unanswered Questions
        2. How does the control unit differentiate between a single sheet and double feeding?

The control unit likely uses sensors to detect the thickness of the sheet or the presence of multiple sheets to determine if double feeding is occurring.

        1. What happens if the double feeding detection unit fails to detect multiple sheets?

If the double feeding detection unit fails, there is a risk of errors in the printing or scanning process, potentially leading to paper jams or misfeeds.

Original Abstract Submitted

A sheet conveyance apparatus includes a sheet conveyance unit, a double feeding detection unit, a first sheet detection unit, and a control unit. The double feeding detection unit detects double feeding with respect to a sheet. The control unit controls a conveyance speed of a sheet conveyed by the sheet conveyance unit at a first speed and a second speed which is slower than the first speed and at which the sheet is in motion. The control unit controls the sheet conveyance unit to decelerate the conveyance speed of a sheet conveyed by the sheet conveyance unit from the first speed to the second speed based on a detection result of the first sheet detection unit. The control unit controls the double feeding detection unit to execute a double feeding detecting operation with respect to the sheet that is conveyed at the second speed by the sheet conveyance unit.
