ALERTING SYSTEM AND ALERTING METHOD - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18501407 titled 'ALERTING SYSTEM AND ALERTING METHOD

The abstract describes a patent application for an alerting system that notifies a driver when there is a risk of a vehicle departing from a lane. The system records the driver's reaction to the notification and uses this information to determine the optimal notification parameters for the highest reaction ratio.

  • The system alerts the driver when a risk indicator shows a vehicle may depart from a lane
  • It determines notification parameters such as timing and conspicuousness level
  • Records the driver's reactive behavior to the notification
  • Calculates an optimal parameter set based on the driver's reaction information
  • Aims to improve driver response to lane departure warnings

Potential Applications: - Automotive safety systems - Driver assistance technology - Fleet management solutions

Problems Solved: - Enhancing driver awareness of lane departure risks - Improving driver response to alerts - Optimizing notification parameters for maximum effectiveness

Benefits: - Increased driver safety - Reduced risk of lane departure accidents - Enhanced driver assistance features

Commercial Applications: Title: "Optimized Lane Departure Alert System for Vehicles" This technology can be utilized by automotive manufacturers, fleet management companies, and developers of driver assistance systems to enhance vehicle safety and improve driver response to lane departure warnings. The market implications include increased demand for advanced safety features in vehicles and the potential for partnerships with insurance companies to promote safer driving practices.

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the system determine the optimal notification parameters for each driver? 2. What are the potential challenges in implementing this technology in different types of vehicles?

Original Abstract Submitted

An alerting system that, when a risk indicator indicating a risk of a vehicle departing from a lane falls in a predetermined value range, executes a notification at a predetermined conspicuousness level to a driver of the vehicle via an HMI device; decides on a notification parameter set including parameters defining a notification output timing and the conspicuousness level; records presence or absence of a reactive behavior of the driver to the notification executed using the notification parameter set; records reaction information in which a reaction ratio, which is a ratio of the number of the notifications to which the reactive behavior occurs to the number of the notifications executed, is associated with each of the different notification parameter sets; and calculates and decides on, based on the reaction information, an optimal parameter set with which the reaction ratio is estimated to become the highest.
