CODEBOOK SUBSET RESTRICTION FOR FULL-DIMENSION MIMO - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18497941 titled 'CODEBOOK SUBSET RESTRICTION FOR FULL-DIMENSION MIMO

Simplified Explanation

The method described in the abstract involves identifying a subset of precoding matrix codewords that are not to be reported by a wireless device in channel-state-information feedback, and transmitting a bitmap to the wireless device to indicate this subset.

  • The method involves selecting specific precoding matrix codewords to be excluded from feedback by a wireless device.
  • A bitmap is used to represent the subset of precoding matrix codewords that are not to be reported.
  • Each bit in the bitmap corresponds to a unique combination of first and second dimension indices that identify a two-dimensional beam.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method, in a radio network node, comprises identifying, among a predetermined codebook of precoding matrix codewords, a subset of precoding matrix codewords that are not to be reported by the wireless device in channel-state-information, CSI, feedback, and transmitting, to the wireless device, a bitmap identifying the subset of precoding matrix codewords that are not to be reported by the wireless device; where each bit in the bitmap corresponds to only one combination of a first dimension index l′and a second dimension index l′out of the possible combinations of the first dimension index l′and the second dimension index l′, and where the first dimension index l′and the second dimension index l′identify a two-dimensional beam, the two-dimensional beam being defined by a vector of complex numbers comprised within at least one column of a precoding matrix codeword in the codebook.
