WAVEFORM-TAILORED AVERAGE POWER TRACKING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18483877 titled 'WAVEFORM-TAILORED AVERAGE POWER TRACKING

Simplified Explanation

The disclosed apparatus is designed for waveform-tailored average power tracking. It consists of an amplifier, a power converter, and an average power tracking module. The amplifier amplifies radio-frequency signals using a supply voltage, and these signals have different waveforms. The power converter is connected to the amplifier and provides the supply voltage. The average power tracking module adjusts the supply voltage based on the different waveforms, causing it to vary across at least two waveforms for related average output powers.

  • The apparatus includes an amplifier, power converter, and average power tracking module.
  • The amplifier amplifies radio-frequency signals using a supply voltage.
  • The radio-frequency signals have different waveforms.
  • The power converter provides the supply voltage to the amplifier.
  • The average power tracking module adjusts the supply voltage based on the different waveforms.
  • The supply voltage varies across at least two waveforms for related average output powers.

Potential Applications:

  • Wireless communication systems
  • Radar systems
  • Satellite communication systems
  • Cellular networks

Problems Solved:

  • Ensures efficient power utilization in amplifying radio-frequency signals with different waveforms.

  • Enables better control and management of power levels in various applications.

Original Abstract Submitted

An apparatus is disclosed for waveform-tailored average power tracking. In an example aspect, the apparatus includes an amplifier, a power converter, and an average power tracking module. The amplifier is configured to amplify radio-frequency signals using a supply voltage. The radio-frequency signals have different waveforms. The power converter is coupled to the amplifier and configured to provide the supply voltage. The average power tracking module is coupled to the power converter and configured to adjust the supply voltage according to the different waveforms to cause the supply voltage to vary across at least two waveforms of the different waveforms for related average output powers.
