TOWING DETERMINATION DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18481502 titled 'TOWING DETERMINATION DEVICE

The towing determination device described in the patent application includes a rear sensor and a processor that analyzes data from the sensor to determine if the host vehicle is towing an object.

  • The processor can detect an object following the vehicle at a constant distance without deviating from the vehicle's trajectory while turning, indicating that the vehicle is towing the object.
  • Conversely, if the processor detects an object following the vehicle at a constant distance but deviating from the vehicle's trajectory while turning, it determines that the vehicle is not towing the object.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Utilizes a rear sensor and processor to determine if a vehicle is towing an object based on its behavior while turning.
  • Can differentiate between objects being towed and objects simply following the vehicle.

Potential Applications:

  • Automotive industry for vehicle safety and monitoring.
  • Logistics and transportation for tracking towed objects.
  • Fleet management for monitoring towing activities.

Problems Solved:

  • Provides a reliable method for determining if a vehicle is towing an object.
  • Enhances safety by ensuring proper towing practices are followed.

Benefits:

  • Improved vehicle safety.
  • Enhanced monitoring and tracking capabilities.
  • Prevents accidents related to improper towing.

Commercial Applications:

  • Vehicle manufacturers can integrate this technology for enhanced safety features.
  • Towing companies can use this device for accurate monitoring of towing activities.

Questions about the Technology: 1. How does the device differentiate between objects being towed and objects following the vehicle? 2. What are the potential limitations of this technology in different driving conditions?

Frequently Updated Research: Research on improving sensor accuracy and processor efficiency in determining towing activities.

Original Abstract Submitted

The towing determination device includes a rear sensor and a processor configured to determine whether or not the host vehicle is towing an object based on information obtained from the rear sensor. The processor detects an object OB following the own vehicle while maintaining a constant distance from the own vehicle without deviating from the trajectory TR of the own vehicle while the own vehicle is turning. If so, it is determined that the vehicle is towing the object OB. The processor detects an object OB following the own vehicle while maintaining a constant distance from the own vehicle while deviating from the trajectory TR of the own vehicle while the own vehicle is turning. If so, it is determined that the vehicle is not towing the object OB.
