OBJECT TRACKING METHOD AND ELECTRONIC APPARATUS THEREFOR - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18474629 titled 'OBJECT TRACKING METHOD AND ELECTRONIC APPARATUS THEREFOR

Simplified Explanation

An electronic apparatus is described in this patent application. The apparatus includes a display, a first camera with a wide field of view (FOV), a second camera with a narrower FOV, at least one processor, and a memory. The apparatus is designed to capture a series of images using the first camera, identify a region of interest (ROI) containing an object from these images, enlarge the image region containing the ROI, and track the object using the second camera by adjusting the lens based on the movement and magnification of the ROI. The resulting series of images from the second camera are displayed on the device's display.

  • The electronic apparatus has a display, two cameras with different FOVs, a processor, and memory.
  • It captures a series of images using the first camera.
  • It identifies a region of interest (ROI) containing an object from the captured images.
  • If the size of the ROI is within a specified range, it enlarges the image region containing the ROI.
  • It then uses the second camera to capture a series of images while tracking the object.
  • The lens of the second camera is adjusted based on the movement and magnification of the ROI within the enlarged image region.
  • The resulting series of images from the second camera are displayed on the device's display.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Surveillance systems: The ability to track and zoom in on specific objects or individuals within a wide field of view can enhance surveillance capabilities.
  • Photography and videography: This technology can be used to track and capture high-quality images or videos of moving subjects, even from a distance.
  • Augmented reality: The ability to track and zoom in on specific objects can enhance the user's experience in augmented reality applications.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Difficulty in tracking and capturing clear images of moving objects within a wide field of view.
  • Limited ability to zoom in on specific objects without losing image quality.
  • Inefficient use of camera resources when capturing images of a specific object within a wide field of view.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved tracking and capturing capabilities for moving objects.
  • Enhanced zooming capabilities without compromising image quality.
  • Efficient utilization of camera resources by dynamically adjusting the lens based on the movement and magnification of the tracked object.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic apparatus is provided. The electronic apparatus includes a display, a first camera having a first field of view (FOV), a second camera having a second FOV that is narrower than the first FOV, at least one processor, and a memory. The electronic apparatus is configured to obtain a series of first images by using the first camera, identify a first region of interest including an object from the series of first images, when the size of the first region of interest is within a specified first range, enlarge a first image region including the first region of interest, obtain a series of second images by using the second camera while tracking the object, by moving a lens of the second camera based on movement of the first region of interest within the first image region and a magnification of the first image region, and display the series of second images on the display.
