ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND FINGERPRINT RECOGNITION METHOD OF SAME - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18469081 titled 'ELECTRONIC DEVICE AND FINGERPRINT RECOGNITION METHOD OF SAME

Simplified Explanation

An electronic device is described in this patent application. The device includes a memory, a fingerprint sensor, a display module, and a processor. The processor is connected to the memory, fingerprint sensor, and display module.

  • The processor can acquire a fingerprint image through the fingerprint sensor.
  • If the first fingerprint recognition operation fails, the processor can acquire the first fingerprint image until the touch for fingerprint recognition is released.
  • The processor then determines whether a second fingerprint image is acquired for a predetermined time.
  • If the second fingerprint image is acquired for the predetermined time, the processor determines whether the similarity between the first and second fingerprint images is greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold.
  • If the similarity is greater than or equal to the threshold, the processor recognizes the fingerprint.

Potential applications of this technology:

  • Mobile devices: This technology can be used in smartphones and tablets to provide secure fingerprint recognition for unlocking the device or authorizing transactions.
  • Access control systems: It can be implemented in security systems to grant access to authorized individuals based on their fingerprints.
  • Biometric authentication: This technology can be used in various applications that require biometric authentication, such as banking, healthcare, and government services.

Problems solved by this technology:

  • Enhanced security: By using fingerprint recognition, this technology provides a more secure method of authentication compared to traditional passwords or PINs.
  • Convenience: Users can easily unlock their devices or access secure areas by simply placing their finger on the fingerprint sensor.
  • Accuracy: The system can accurately recognize fingerprints, reducing the chances of false positives or false negatives.

Benefits of this technology:

  • Improved user experience: Fingerprint recognition offers a convenient and quick way for users to authenticate themselves without the need to remember complex passwords.
  • Enhanced security: Fingerprint recognition provides a higher level of security compared to traditional authentication methods, as fingerprints are unique to each individual.
  • Reliable and efficient: The system can quickly and accurately recognize fingerprints, providing a reliable and efficient method of authentication.

Original Abstract Submitted

An electronic device is provided. The electronic device includes a memory, a fingerprint sensor, a display module, and a processor operatively connected to the memory, the fingerprint sensor, and the display module. The processor may acquire a fingerprint image through the fingerprint sensor, if the first fingerprint recognition operation fails, acquire the first fingerprint image up to the release time of a touch for fingerprint recognition, if the touch is released, determine whether a second fingerprint image is acquired for a predetermined time, if the second fingerprint image is acquired for the predetermined time, determine whether the similarity between the first fingerprint image and the second fingerprint image is greater than or equal to a predetermined threshold, and if the similarity between the first fingerprint image and the second fingerprint image is greater than or equal to the predetermined threshold, recognize the fingerprint.
