Packaging Content for Delivery - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18467823 titled 'Packaging Content for Delivery

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes systems and methods for delivering content to user equipment using various delivery formats such as Internet Protocol (IP) delivery and Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) delivery. The system receives content with multiple segments, uses manifest data to identify and generate index data for the segments, and delivers the index data along with the segments to user devices. Additionally, the system utilizes location information from data packets to generate location information for other packets within the segments.

  • Content delivery to user equipment using IP delivery, QAM delivery, or other formats
  • Identification and indexing of content segments using manifest data
  • Delivery of index data along with content segments to user devices
  • Utilization of location information from data packets to generate location information for other packets within segments

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in the fields of streaming services, video on demand platforms, and digital broadcasting systems.

Problems Solved

1. Efficient delivery of content to user equipment 2. Seamless integration of manifest data and location information for improved user experience

Benefits

1. Enhanced user experience with organized and indexed content delivery 2. Improved efficiency in content delivery to user devices

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimizing content delivery for streaming services Enhancing user experience on video on demand platforms Improving efficiency in digital broadcasting systems

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the use of manifest data in content delivery systems to organize and identify segments for efficient delivery to user equipment.

Unanswered Questions

1. How does the system handle errors or disruptions in content delivery? 2. What security measures are in place to protect the content being delivered to user equipment?

Original Abstract Submitted

Systems and methods for delivering content to user equipment are described. The content may be delivered using Internet Protocol (IP) delivery, Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) delivery, or another delivery format. For example, the system may receive content including a plurality of segments. The system may use manifest data to identify each of the plurality of segments. The system may also use the manifest data to generate index data for the plurality of segments, and the index data may be delivered to user devices with the plurality of segments. In some aspects, the system may use location information (e.g., timestamps, such as program clock references) for one or more data packet of the one of the plurality of segments to generate location information for other data packets.
