INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS, CONTROL METHOD THEREOF, AND MEDIUM AND PRINTING SYSTEM THEREOF - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18467029 titled 'INFORMATION PROCESSING APPARATUS, CONTROL METHOD THEREOF, AND MEDIUM AND PRINTING SYSTEM THEREOF

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes an information processing apparatus that manages capability information of image forming apparatuses associated with a virtual printer, determines if a received print job is conditional, selects an image forming apparatus that meets the conditions, and transmits the print job to that apparatus.

  • The information processing apparatus configures a virtual printer linked to one or more image forming apparatuses.
  • It manages capability information of each image forming apparatus associated with the virtual printer.
  • When a print job is received, it checks if it is a conditional print job that requires specific conditions to be met.
  • If the print job is conditional, the apparatus selects an image forming apparatus that meets the predetermined condition.
  • The selected image forming apparatus receives and executes the conditional print job.

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in office environments where multiple printers are available, allowing for efficient distribution of print jobs based on specific conditions.

Problems Solved

This technology solves the problem of manually selecting the appropriate printer for conditional print jobs, streamlining the printing process and reducing errors.

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include increased efficiency in print job distribution, reduced manual intervention, and improved overall printing workflow.

Potential Commercial Applications

Potential commercial applications of this technology include office printing solutions, print management systems, and document workflow optimization tools.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be print management software that assigns print jobs to specific printers based on predefined rules or conditions. Another could be networked printers that can be selected based on user preferences or job requirements.

Unanswered Questions

1. How does the information processing apparatus determine the specific conditions required for a conditional print job? 2. Are there any limitations to the number of image forming apparatuses that can be associated with the virtual printer in this system?

Original Abstract Submitted

An information processing apparatus configures a virtual printer associated with one or a plurality of image forming apparatuses, manages capability information indicating a capability of each of the one or a plurality of image forming apparatuses associated with the virtual printer, determines, when a print job for the virtual printer is received, whether or not the print job is a conditional print job to be executed by an image forming apparatus that satisfies a predetermined condition, references, in a case where the print job is determined to be the conditional print job, the capability information and specifies an image forming apparatus that satisfies the predetermined condition from among the one or a plurality of image forming apparatuses, and transmits the conditional print job to an image forming apparatus that satisfies the predetermined condition.
