SHEET POST-PROCESSING DEVICE - A simplified explanation of the abstract
This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18463803 titled 'SHEET POST-PROCESSING DEVICE
Simplified Explanation
The sheet post-processing device described in the abstract includes a discharge port, a discharge tray, a first sheet holding member, and a second sheet holding member. The discharge port features a pair of discharge rollers that discharge sheets, including folded sheets that have undergone folding processing. The first and second sheet holding members are selectively positioned downstream of the discharge rollers in the discharge direction of the folded sheet. They intersect the discharge route for the folded sheet and extend downward from above the discharge rollers towards the discharge tray to hold the folded sheet, and can also be retreated to a position above the discharge route for the folded sheet.
- Discharge port with a pair of discharge rollers for discharging sheets, including folded sheets.
- First and second sheet holding members positioned downstream of the discharge rollers to hold the folded sheet.
- Holding members intersect the discharge route for the folded sheet and can be retreated to a position above the discharge route.
Potential Applications
The technology described in this patent application could be applied in industries that involve high-volume printing and folding processes, such as commercial printing, publishing, and packaging.
Problems Solved
This technology solves the problem of efficiently handling and processing folded sheets after they have been printed and folded, ensuring smooth and reliable post-processing operations.
Benefits
The benefits of this technology include improved workflow efficiency, reduced manual handling of folded sheets, and increased productivity in post-processing operations.
Potential Commercial Applications
The potential commercial applications of this technology include print shops, publishing houses, packaging companies, and any industry that requires post-processing of printed and folded sheets.
Possible Prior Art
One possible prior art for this technology could be similar sheet post-processing devices with discharge ports and sheet holding members, but with different configurations or mechanisms for holding and processing folded sheets.
Unanswered Questions
How does this technology improve the efficiency of post-processing operations for folded sheets?
This technology improves efficiency by automating the handling and holding of folded sheets, reducing the need for manual intervention and streamlining the post-processing workflow.
What are the specific industries that could benefit most from implementing this sheet post-processing device?
Industries such as commercial printing, publishing, and packaging could benefit the most from implementing this technology due to their high-volume printing and folding operations.
Original Abstract Submitted
The sheet post-processing device includes a discharge port, a discharge tray, a first sheet holding member, and a second sheet holding member. The discharge port has a pair of discharge rollers that discharge a sheet including a folded sheet subjected to folding processing. The first sheet holding member and the second sheet holding member are, on a downstream side of the pair of discharge rollers in the discharge direction of the folded sheet, selectively disposed at a holding position, at which the first sheet holding member and the second sheet holding member intersect a discharge route for the folded sheet and extend downward from above the pair of discharge rollers toward the discharge tray to hold the folded sheet, and a retreat position retreated to above the discharge route for the folded sheet.
