IMAGE RECORDING METHOD - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18458656 titled 'IMAGE RECORDING METHOD

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for recording images using a treatment liquid and ink on a permeable substrate.

  • Treatment liquid containing water and an aggregating agent is applied to the substrate with a coating roller.
  • Ink containing water, a water-soluble organic solvent, a colorant, and a resin is applied to the treated region of the substrate using an ink jet method.
  • The diameter of the coating roller (y) is between 5 to 100 mm, and the viscosity of the treatment liquid at 25°C (x) is such that the value of y-25ln(x) falls between 90 to 160.

Potential Applications

This technology can be used in printing and image recording industries for producing high-quality images on various substrates.

Problems Solved

This method helps in achieving precise and vibrant image reproduction on permeable substrates, which was previously challenging.

Benefits

The method allows for efficient image recording with improved color accuracy and durability on permeable materials.

Potential Commercial Applications

The technology can be applied in the production of textiles, wallpapers, and other printed materials for commercial use.

Possible Prior Art

Prior methods of image recording on permeable substrates may not have utilized a treatment liquid with specific properties as described in this patent application.

Unanswered Questions

How does this method compare to traditional printing techniques on non-permeable substrates?

This method is specifically designed for permeable substrates, so a comparison to traditional printing techniques on non-permeable surfaces would be necessary to understand its advantages and limitations.

What are the environmental implications of using a treatment liquid with water and an aggregating agent?

The use of water and aggregating agents in the treatment liquid may have environmental implications in terms of disposal and sustainability. Further research and analysis would be needed to assess the environmental impact of this technology.

Original Abstract Submitted

An image recording method includes a step of applying a treatment liquid containing water and an aggregating agent to a permeable substrate to be transported, with a coating roller, and a step of applying an ink containing water, a water-soluble organic solvent, a colorant, and a resin to a region of the permeable substrate, which has been coated with the treatment liquid, by an ink jet method to record an image, in which, in a case where a diameter of the coating roller, expressed in mm unit, is defined as y and a viscosity of the treatment liquid at 25° C., expressed in mPa·s unit, is defined as x, x is 5 to 100 and a value of y−25ln(x) is 90 to 160.
