DISPLAY DEVICE AND TOUCH DRIVING METHOD - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18457419 titled 'DISPLAY DEVICE AND TOUCH DRIVING METHOD

The abstract describes a display device with a touch panel that includes touch electrodes and a touch controller. The touch controller sends a driving signal to the touch electrodes and detects touch and touch position by measuring changes in capacitance between the touch electrodes and a common electrode. The touch controller consists of two touch driving ICs, one for each sensing area, with different frequencies for the driving signals.

  • Touch panel with touch electrodes and touch controller
  • Detection of touch and touch position through changes in capacitance
  • Two touch driving ICs with different frequencies for driving signals
  • First touch driving IC for first sensing area, second touch driving IC for second sensing area
  • Common electrode used in conjunction with touch electrodes

Questions about Touch Panel Technology: 1. How does the touch controller differentiate between touches in different sensing areas? The touch controller uses two touch driving ICs with different frequencies to provide driving signals to the touch electrodes in each sensing area, allowing for the differentiation of touches.

2. What are the key advantages of using capacitance changes for touch detection in touch panels? Capacitance-based touch detection offers high sensitivity, accuracy, and reliability in detecting touch inputs, leading to precise and responsive user interactions.

Original Abstract Submitted

A display device includes a touch panel including touch electrodes and a touch controller. The touch controller provides a driving signal to the touch electrodes and detects a touch and a touch position by sensing a change in values of capacitance formed between the touch electrodes and a common electrode. The touch controller includes a first touch driving IC corresponding to first touch electrodes in a first sensing area and a second touch driving IC corresponding to second touch electrodes included in a second sensing area. A first driving signal provided to the first touch electrodes from the first touch driving IC and a second driving signal provided to the second touch electrodes from the second touch driving IC have different frequencies.
