COMMUNICATION METHOD AND USER EQUIPMENT - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18432558 titled 'COMMUNICATION METHOD AND USER EQUIPMENT

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a communication method in a mobile communication system for supporting a multicast and broadcast service (MBS). The method involves determining if a predetermined condition is met when a user equipment starts receiving an MBS session midway, and transmitting lost packet identification information to the base station in such cases.

  • User equipment determines if a predetermined condition is met when starting reception of an MBS session midway.
  • User equipment transmits lost packet identification information to the base station in case the condition is satisfied.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in mobile communication systems to improve the reliability and efficiency of multicast and broadcast services.

Problems Solved

1. Enhances the user experience by ensuring seamless reception of MBS sessions. 2. Helps in identifying and recovering lost packets during MBS sessions.

Benefits

1. Improved reliability of multicast and broadcast services. 2. Enhanced user satisfaction with uninterrupted MBS sessions.

Potential Commercial Applications

Optimizing multicast and broadcast services in mobile communication systems for better user experience and service reliability.

Possible Prior Art

There may be existing technologies or methods in the field of mobile communication systems that address the issue of lost packets during multicast and broadcast services.

Unanswered Questions

How does this method impact network efficiency in terms of bandwidth usage?

The abstract does not provide information on how this method may affect network efficiency in terms of bandwidth utilization.

What specific types of MBS sessions can benefit most from this communication method?

The abstract does not specify which types of MBS sessions could benefit the most from the described communication method.

Original Abstract Submitted

In a first aspect, a communication method is used in a mobile communication system for supporting a multicast and broadcast service (MBS). The communication method includes: determining, by a user equipment having started reception of an MBS session from a base station, whether a predetermined condition is satisfied indicating that the reception has started midway of the MBS session; and transmitting, by the user equipment to the base station lost packet identification information indicating a lost packet group from a start of the MBS session until a start of the reception, when determining that the predetermined condition is satisfied.
