RANDOM ACCESS METHOD AND APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18432504 titled 'RANDOM ACCESS METHOD AND APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The abstract of the patent application describes a method and apparatus for random access in a network device, where the random access configuration includes shared and dedicated configurations for different features.

  • The method involves receiving system information indicating a random access configuration for N first features of a network device.
  • The random access configuration includes M shared configurations and N dedicated configurations, with a correspondence between them.
  • The terminal device initiates random access based on this configuration, which includes shared parameters for multiple features and dedicated configurations for individual features.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in various communication systems where random access is required, such as cellular networks, IoT devices, and satellite communication systems.

Problems Solved

This technology helps in efficiently managing random access procedures in a network device by providing shared configurations for common features and dedicated configurations for specific features, reducing complexity and optimizing resource utilization.

Benefits

The use of shared configurations reduces the overhead of random access procedures, improves network efficiency, and enhances overall system performance by streamlining the access process for different features.

Potential Commercial Applications

This technology could be valuable for telecommunications companies, network equipment manufacturers, and IoT device manufacturers looking to enhance the efficiency and performance of their systems through optimized random access procedures.

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art in this field could be related to existing methods for random access in communication systems, such as traditional ALOHA or slotted ALOHA protocols, which may not provide the same level of flexibility and efficiency as the shared and dedicated configurations described in this patent application.

Unanswered Questions

How does this technology impact network scalability?

This technology could potentially improve network scalability by providing a more efficient random access method, but the specific scalability benefits need to be further explored through testing and real-world implementation.

What are the potential security implications of using shared configurations in random access procedures?

While shared configurations can improve efficiency, there may be security concerns related to the sharing of parameters among multiple features. Further research is needed to assess and address any security risks associated with this approach.

Original Abstract Submitted

A random access method and apparatus are provided. The method includes: The terminal device receives system information that indicates a first random access configuration of N first features of a network device, one first feature is one feature or one feature combination, the first random access configuration includes M first configurations and N second configurations, there is a correspondence between the M first configurations and the N second configurations, and M and N are positive integers. The terminal device initiates random access based on the first random access configuration. A random access configuration is for the N first features, and the first configuration is a shared configuration. The shared configuration may be a parameter shared by a plurality of first features. The second configuration is a dedicated configuration and is a configuration applicable to the one first feature.
