Deregistration Method and Communication Apparatus - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18432423 titled 'Deregistration Method and Communication Apparatus

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method for deregistering a terminal device from a network based on specific information received from a mobility management network element.

  • Receiving a message with onboarding indication or time information from a mobility management network element.
  • Starting a deregistration timer based on the received information.
  • Triggering a deregistration procedure upon timer expiry to remove the terminal device from the network.

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in mobile networks to efficiently manage terminal devices and prevent them from camping on the network indefinitely.

Problems Solved

1. Preventing terminal devices from staying connected to the network indefinitely. 2. Ensuring efficient network management by deregistering devices when necessary.

Benefits

1. Improved network efficiency. 2. Enhanced network security by removing unauthorized devices.

Potential Commercial Applications

"Efficient Deregistration Method for Network Devices"

Possible Prior Art

There may be prior art related to network device deregistration methods in mobile communication systems.

Unanswered Questions

How does this method impact network performance during peak usage times?

The article does not address how the deregistration process may affect network performance under heavy traffic conditions.

What are the potential security implications of triggering deregistration procedures remotely?

The article does not discuss the security considerations involved in remotely triggering deregistration procedures for terminal devices.

Original Abstract Submitted

This application provides a deregistration method and a communication apparatus. The method may include: receiving a first message from a first mobility management network element, where the first message carries first information which is onboarding indication information or time information of a first deregistration timer on the first mobility management network element; starting a second deregistration timer based on the first information; and upon expiry of the second deregistration timer, triggering a deregistration procedure, to deregister a terminal device from a network. In this application, after mobility management network element redirection, the deregistration timer can still be started on the new mobility management network element that supports onboarding. Upon expiry of the deregistration timer, the deregistration procedure is triggered to deregister the terminal device from the network, to prevent the terminal device from camping on the network indefinitely.
