RRC RELEASE AFTER SMALL DATA TRANSMISSION COMPLETION - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18431445 titled 'RRC RELEASE AFTER SMALL DATA TRANSMISSION COMPLETION

Simplified Explanation

The abstract describes a patent application related to a wireless device receiving configuration parameters for uplink resources for a small data transmission procedure, transmitting a resume request message and uplink data to a base station, and receiving an RRC release message after completion of the procedure.

  • Wireless device receives RRC message with uplink resource configuration parameters
  • Wireless device transmits RRC resume request message and uplink data to base station
  • Base station central unit sends RRC release message after inactivity notification and completion of SDT procedure

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in various wireless communication systems where efficient management of uplink resources is crucial, such as IoT devices, smart grids, and industrial automation.

Problems Solved

1. Efficient utilization of uplink resources for small data transmissions 2. Seamless communication handover between wireless devices and base stations

Benefits

1. Improved reliability and performance of small data transmissions 2. Enhanced network efficiency and resource allocation 3. Reduced latency in communication procedures

Potential Commercial Applications

"Optimizing Uplink Resources for Small Data Transmission in Wireless Communication Systems"

The technology's impact on battery life of wireless devices is not explicitly mentioned in the abstract. However, by efficiently managing uplink resources for small data transmissions, it is possible that the technology could contribute to optimizing power consumption and potentially extending battery life.

How does this technology improve network scalability in wireless communication systems?

The abstract does not provide specific details on how this technology improves network scalability in wireless communication systems. However, by streamlining the management of uplink resources and communication procedures for small data transmissions, it is likely that the technology could enhance network scalability by reducing bottlenecks and optimizing resource allocation.

Original Abstract Submitted

A wireless device receives a radio resource control (RRC) message comprising configuration parameters for uplink resources associated with a small data transmission (SDT) procedure of the wireless device. The wireless device transmits, to a base station central unit (BS-CU) via the uplink resources of a base station distributed unit (BS-DU), an RRC resume request message for the SDT procedure, and uplink data associated with the SDT procedure. The wireless device receives, from the BS-CU to via the BS-DU, an RRC release message after the BS-CU receives a message indicating inactivity notification and completion of the SDT procedure.
