HARQ CODEBOOK STRUCTURE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18431200 titled 'HARQ CODEBOOK STRUCTURE

Simplified Explanation

The disclosure relates to a method of operating a user equipment in a radio access network, involving transmitting acknowledgement information based on a HARQ codebook that indicates a bit pattern for the acknowledgement information. The HARQ codebook is based on two numerologies - one for transmitting subject transmissions and another for transmitting acknowledgement information, with different slot durations for each numerology.

  • Explanation of the patent/innovation:
 * Method involves transmitting acknowledgement information based on a HARQ codebook.
 * HARQ codebook indicates a bit pattern for the acknowledgement information.
 * HARQ codebook is based on two numerologies with different slot durations.
 * First numerology used for subject transmissions, second numerology used for acknowledgement information.
      1. Potential Applications:

- This technology can be applied in wireless communication systems to improve the efficiency of transmitting and receiving data. - Can be used in 5G networks to enhance the reliability and performance of communication between user equipment and the network.

- Prior art may include methods of HARQ (Hybrid Automatic Repeat reQuest) in wireless communication systems. - Previous technologies may have addressed the issue of slot durations in different numerologies for improved communication efficiency.

    1. Unanswered Questions:
      1. How does this method impact the overall performance of the radio access network?

This method can potentially improve the reliability and efficiency of data transmission in the network, but the specific impact on performance metrics such as latency and throughput needs further evaluation.

      1. What are the potential challenges in implementing this method in existing communication systems?

Integrating this method into current communication systems may require updates to network infrastructure and user equipment, which could pose challenges in terms of compatibility and deployment costs.

Original Abstract Submitted

This disclosure pertains to a method of operating a user equipment in a radio access network. The method includes transmitting acknowledgement information reporting on subject transmissions associated to one or more subject transmission slots based on a HARQ codebook. The HARQ codebook indicates a bit pattern of the acknowledgement information. Moreover, the HARQ codebook is based on a first numerology, the first numerology being used for the subject transmissions in a first communication direction, and a second numerology, the second numerology being used for transmitting the acknowledgement information in a second communication direction, wherein a first slot duration associated with the first numerology is different from a second slot duration associated with the second numerology. There are also disclosed related methods and devices.
