Method, Device, Storage Medium, and Program Product for Communication - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18430990 titled 'Method, Device, Storage Medium, and Program Product for Communication

Simplified Explanation

The method described in the abstract involves an access point device in a wireless local area network (WLAN) allocating a transmission opportunity (TXOP) to a non-access point device for data transmission, receiving a frame from the non-access point device, and keeping a network allocation vector (NAV) unchanged based on the received frame.

  • Access point device obtains a TXOP in a WLAN
  • Allocates a period in the TXOP to a non-access point device for data transmission
  • Receives a frame from the non-access point device
  • Associated access address or transmitter address of the frame with the non-access point device
  • Keeps the NAV unchanged based on the received frame

Potential Applications

This technology could be applied in:

  • Wireless communication systems
  • Internet of Things (IoT) devices
  • Smart home automation

Problems Solved

This technology helps in:

  • Efficient data transmission in WLAN
  • Resource allocation in wireless networks
  • Minimizing collisions and interference in data transmission

Benefits

The benefits of this technology include:

  • Improved network performance
  • Enhanced data transmission efficiency
  • Better utilization of network resources

Potential Commercial Applications

This technology could be commercially applied in:

  • Networking equipment manufacturing
  • Telecommunication companies
  • IoT device manufacturers

Possible Prior Art

One possible prior art could be the use of network allocation vectors (NAVs) in wireless communication systems to manage data transmission and network resources efficiently.

Unanswered Questions

How does this technology impact battery life in IoT devices?

This article does not address the potential impact of this technology on the battery life of IoT devices. Implementing this method may require additional energy consumption, affecting the overall battery performance.

What are the security implications of keeping the NAV unchanged based on received frames?

The article does not discuss the security implications of maintaining the network allocation vector (NAV) unchanged. This could potentially lead to vulnerabilities in the network if not properly addressed.

Original Abstract Submitted

A method includes an access point device that obtains a transmission opportunity (TXOP) in a wireless local area network (WLAN) and that allocates a first period in the TXOP to a non-access point device for data transmission. The access point device receives a first frame in the first period. An access address or a transmitter address of the first frame is associated with the non-access point device. The method further includes that the access point device keeps, based on the first frame, a network allocation vector (NAV) unchanged.
