FLEXIBLE URETEROSCOPE WITH QUICK MEDICAL DEVICE ACCESS AND EXCHANGE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18430923 titled 'FLEXIBLE URETEROSCOPE WITH QUICK MEDICAL DEVICE ACCESS AND EXCHANGE

Simplified Explanation

The scope device described in the patent application consists of a shaft, a deflectable portion, and a handle portion. The shaft is inserted through a body lumen to reach a target area within the body. The shaft has first and second lumens along its proximal portion, which merge into a common lumen at the distal portion via a fitting that converges the lumens. The deflectable portion is connected to the distal end of the shaft and includes a channel aligned with the common lumen. The handle portion includes a connector with hubs that have channels open to and in communication with the first and second lumens.

  • The scope device has a shaft that can be inserted through a body lumen to access a target area within the body.
  • The shaft has first and second lumens that merge into a common lumen at the distal end via a fitting.
  • The deflectable portion of the device is connected to the distal end of the shaft and includes a channel aligned with the common lumen.
  • The handle portion of the device includes a connector with hubs that have channels open to and in communication with the first and second lumens.

Potential Applications

The scope device can be used in medical procedures such as endoscopy, laparoscopy, and other minimally invasive surgeries.

Problems Solved

The scope device allows for easier navigation through body lumens and improved visualization of target areas within the body.

Benefits

The scope device provides better access to hard-to-reach areas within the body, reduces the risk of damage to surrounding tissues, and enhances the accuracy of medical procedures.

Potential Commercial Applications

"Advanced Scope Device for Minimally Invasive Surgeries"

Possible Prior Art

There may be similar scope devices on the market that offer features like deflectable portions and handle connectors, but the specific design described in this patent application may be unique.

Original Abstract Submitted

A scope device includes a shaft, a deflectable portion, and a handle portion. The shaft is inserted through a body lumen to a target area within a body. The shaft defines first and second lumens extending along a proximal portion thereof. The first and second lumens are merged to form a common lumen along a distal portion thereof via a fitting having a structure which, when connected to the first and second lumens, converge the first and second lumens toward the common lumen. The deflectable portion is connected to the distal end of the shaft and includes a channel aligned with and in communication with the common lumen. The handle portion includes a connector having a first hub including a first channel open to and in communication with the first lumen and a second hub including a second channel open to and in communication with the second lumen.
