COMMUNICATION METHOD AND COMMUNICATION APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18427829 titled 'COMMUNICATION METHOD AND COMMUNICATION APPARATUS

Simplified Explanation

The patent application describes a method and apparatus for communication involving packet header compression context handover between network devices.

  • Target access network device determines handover of terminal device from source access network device
  • Sends first information to terminal device indicating packet header compression context
  • First terminal device can correctly decompress subsequently received data packet with compressed packet header

Potential Applications

This technology can be applied in various communication systems where handover of terminal devices between network access points occurs frequently.

Problems Solved

1. Ensures correct decompression of data packets during handover scenarios 2. Improves communication reliability by providing necessary information for packet header compression context

Benefits

1. Enhanced communication reliability 2. Seamless handover of terminal devices between network access points 3. Efficient data packet header compression and decompression

Potential Commercial Applications

"Enhancing Communication Reliability through Packet Header Compression Context Handover Technology"

Possible Prior Art

There may be existing technologies related to packet header compression context handover in communication systems, but specific prior art is not provided in the abstract.

Unanswered Questions

How does the method handle potential conflicts in packet header compression contexts during handover scenarios?

The abstract does not mention how the technology resolves conflicts in packet header compression contexts when multiple terminal devices are involved in handover.

What impact does this technology have on network latency during handover processes?

The abstract does not address the potential impact of this technology on network latency when terminal devices are handed over between access network devices.

Original Abstract Submitted

This application provides a communication method and a communication apparatus. The method includes: A target access network device determines that a first terminal device is handed over from a source access network device to the target access network device; and sends first information to the first terminal device, where the first information indicates a first packet header compression context, and the first packet header compression context is for compressing or decompressing a packet header of a data packet. In this application, the target access network device sends, to the first terminal device, the first information indicating the first packet header compression context, so that in a handover scenario, the first terminal device can correctly decompress a subsequently received data packet with a compressed packet header. This helps improve communication reliability.
