USE OF BLOOD FLOW IMAGES TO INFORM SCS WORKFLOW - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18419049 titled 'USE OF BLOOD FLOW IMAGES TO INFORM SCS WORKFLOW

The abstract describes a medical system that includes a spinal cord stimulation (SCS) system, a thermographic imaging system, and an SCS suitability analyzer. The SCS system delivers spinal cord neuromodulation, including a test SCS. The thermographic imaging system captures thermal images of a patient, while the SCS suitability analyzer compares the thermographic imaging response to the test SCS with a baseline to determine if the patient is a suitable candidate for SCS.

  • Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) system delivers spinal cord neuromodulation, including a test SCS.
  • Thermographic imaging system captures thermal images of a patient.
  • SCS suitability analyzer compares thermographic imaging response to test SCS with a baseline to determine suitability for SCS.
  • Method includes capturing thermographic imaging response to delivered SCS and determining a sweet spot for delivering the SCS.
      1. Potential Applications:

- Medical diagnostics - Pain management - Patient suitability assessment for spinal cord stimulation

      1. Problems Solved:

- Identifying suitable candidates for spinal cord stimulation - Monitoring patient response to SCS treatment - Improving accuracy of SCS therapy delivery

      1. Benefits:

- Enhanced patient care - Personalized treatment plans - Improved outcomes for SCS therapy

      1. Commercial Applications:

"Medical System for Spinal Cord Stimulation Suitability Analysis and Monitoring" can be utilized in healthcare facilities, pain management clinics, and research institutions to improve patient care and treatment outcomes.

      1. Questions about the Technology:
        1. 1. How does the thermographic imaging system enhance the assessment of patients for spinal cord stimulation?

The thermographic imaging system provides valuable data on patient responses to SCS, aiding in the determination of suitable candidates for the therapy.

        1. 2. What are the key advantages of using a test SCS in the evaluation process?

The test SCS allows for a more accurate assessment of patient suitability for spinal cord stimulation, leading to better treatment outcomes.

Original Abstract Submitted

A medical system may include a spinal cord stimulation (SCS) system, a thermographic imaging system, and an SCS suitability analyzer. The SCS system may be configured to deliver spinal cord neuromodulation including deliver a test SCS. The thermographic imaging system may be configured for taking thermal images of at least a portion of a patient. The SCS suitability analyzer may be configured to create thermographic imaging comparison data by comparing a thermographic imaging response to the test SCS to a thermographic imaging baseline before the test SCS is delivered, and analyze the thermographic imaging comparison data for an indicator of a significant perfusion response to the test SCS to determine whether the patient is a suitable candidate for SCS. A method may include capturing a thermographic imaging response to delivered SCS and performing, using the thermographic imaging response, a sweet spot determination for delivering the SCS.
