APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR ESTABLISHING COMPLIANCE OF USER EQUIPMENT WITH A TRANSIENT PERIOD FOR FREQUENCY RANGE TWO - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18416121 titled 'APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR ESTABLISHING COMPLIANCE OF USER EQUIPMENT WITH A TRANSIENT PERIOD FOR FREQUENCY RANGE TWO

The patent application discloses apparatus and methods for testing error vector magnitude (EVM) exclusion periods in fifth-generation frequency range transmissions.

  • Transmitting a radio frequency signal in the fifth-generation frequency range using a mobile device's transmit chain.
  • The signal includes a symbol sequence with a power transient between two symbols separated by a transient period.
  • Ensuring compliance with a transient period specification by measuring first and second EVM values during transmission.
  • Delaying the second EVM measurement from the first by an EVM exclusion period.
  • Symmetrically sharing the first and second EVM measurements across a symbol boundary.

Potential Applications: - Testing and optimizing the performance of mobile devices in fifth-generation networks. - Ensuring compliance with EVM specifications in wireless communications systems.

Problems Solved: - Ensuring accurate and reliable transmission of signals in fifth-generation networks. - Improving the quality and efficiency of wireless communication systems.

Benefits: - Enhanced performance and reliability of mobile devices in fifth-generation networks. - Improved quality of wireless communication signals. - Compliance with EVM specifications for better network performance.

Original Abstract Submitted

Apparatus and methods for testing error vector magnitude (EVM) exclusion periods are disclosed. In certain embodiments, a method includes transmitting a radio frequency signal in fifth generation frequency range two using a transmit chain of a mobile device, the radio frequency signal including a symbol sequence that includes a first symbol and a second symbol having a power transient separated by a transient period. The method further includes establishing that the mobile device complies with a transient period specification based on obtaining a first EVM and a second EVM when the mobile device is transmitting the symbol sequence. The second EVM measurement is delayed from the first EVM measurement by an EVM exclusion period, and the first EVM measurement and the second EVM measurement are symmetrically shared across a symbol boundary between the first symbol and the second symbol.
