WHITE INK FOR INKJET PRINTING - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18415348 titled 'WHITE INK FOR INKJET PRINTING

Simplified Explanation:

The patent application describes a white ink for inkjet printing that contains titanium oxide particles in an aqueous medium. The titanium oxide particles have specific size distributions with distinct peaks.

  • The ink contains titanium oxide particles with a first peak between 40 nm and 55 nm and a second peak between 165 nm and 340 nm.
  • The particles are categorized into first titanium oxide particles (40-155 nm) and second titanium oxide particles (165-340 nm) based on their sizes.
  • The major axis length to minor axis length ratios of the particles fall between 2 and 15.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Specific size distribution of titanium oxide particles in the ink.
  • Categorization of particles into first and second titanium oxide particles based on size.
  • Defined ratios of major axis length to minor axis length for the particles.

Potential Applications:

The technology can be used in various inkjet printing applications, especially where white ink is required for high-quality prints.

Problems Solved:

  • Achieving precise control over particle size distribution in white ink.
  • Ensuring consistent printing quality with defined particle characteristics.

Benefits:

  • Improved print quality and color accuracy.
  • Enhanced performance and reliability in inkjet printing.

Commercial Applications:

The technology can be utilized in industries such as graphic design, packaging, and textile printing to produce high-quality prints with accurate colors.

Questions about White Ink for Inkjet Printing:

1. How does the size distribution of titanium oxide particles impact the printing quality? 2. What are the advantages of using white ink with specific particle size ratios in inkjet printing?

Original Abstract Submitted

A white ink for inkjet printing contains titanium oxide particles and an aqueous medium. In particle size distribution measurement for the titanium oxide particles, the titanium oxide particles exhibit at least a first peak present in a particle diameter range between 40 nm and 55 nm and a second peak present in a particle diameter range between 165 nm and 340 nm. Where of the titanium oxide particles, titanium oxide particles with a particle diameter of at least 40 nm and no greater than 155 nm are taken as first titanium oxide particles and titanium oxide with a particle diameter of at least 165 nm and no greater than 340 nm are taken as second titanium oxide particles, ratios of major axis length to minor axis length of the first titanium oxide particles and the second titanium oxide particles each are at least 2 and no greater than 15.
