IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18414948 titled 'IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

The image forming apparatus described in the patent application includes multiple image carrying member units and an intermediate transfer unit. The image carrying member units consist of image carrying members and support frames, while the intermediate transfer unit contains an intermediate transfer belt.

  • Locating member for positioning
  • Image carrying member-side guide rails on upper end portions of frames
  • Main body-side guide rail bridging between the image carrying member-side guide rails

When the intermediate transfer unit is attached to the main body of the apparatus, it slides on the guide rails and is guided by the locating member to the fitting position.

    • Key Features and Innovation:**

- Utilization of guide rails for smooth sliding and positioning of the intermediate transfer unit - Locating member ensures accurate placement of the unit - Efficient transfer of images due to the design of the apparatus

    • Potential Applications:**

- Printing industry for high-quality image transfer - Manufacturing sector for precise image formation processes

    • Problems Solved:**

- Ensures proper alignment and positioning of the intermediate transfer unit - Facilitates smooth movement and transfer of images within the apparatus

    • Benefits:**

- Improved image quality and accuracy - Enhanced efficiency in image transfer processes - Reduced chances of misalignment or errors in image formation

    • Commercial Applications:**

Commercial printers, image processing companies, and manufacturing industries can benefit from this technology to enhance their image forming processes and improve overall efficiency.

    • Questions about the Technology:**

1. How does the use of guide rails improve the functionality of the image forming apparatus? 2. What are the specific advantages of the locating member in positioning the intermediate transfer unit accurately?

Original Abstract Submitted

An image forming apparatus includes a plurality of image carrying member units and an intermediate transfer unit. The image carrying member units include image carrying members and image carrying member support frames. The intermediate transfer unit includes an intermediate transfer belt. The image forming apparatus includes: a locating member; image carrying member-side guide rails that are formed on upper end portions of the image carrying member frames and extend along a horizontal direction; and a main body-side guide rail that is formed as a bridge in the horizontal direction between the image carrying member- side guide rails. When the intermediate transfer unit is fitted to the main body of the apparatus, the intermediate transfer unit slides on the image carrying member-side guide rails and the main body-side guide rail and is guided by the locating member to be located in a fitting position.
