HEAT EXCHANGER - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18414073 titled 'HEAT EXCHANGER

The patent application describes a heat exchanger with a unique fin design to enhance heat transfer efficiency.

  • The heat exchanger includes a heat transfer tube for guiding refrigerant and fins with through-holes for the tube to pass through.
  • The fins are spaced apart to allow air to flow in a specific direction.
  • Each fin has a corrugated portion in a zigzag shape, a sheet portion around the through-hole, and a connecting portion joining the two.
  • The connecting portion has an inclined contact point higher than the valley portion contact point, improving heat transfer.
  • This design optimizes heat exchange between the refrigerant, the tube, and the surrounding air.

Potential Applications: - HVAC systems - Refrigeration units - Industrial cooling systems

Problems Solved: - Enhanced heat transfer efficiency - Improved overall performance of heat exchangers

Benefits: - Increased energy efficiency - Reduced operating costs - Extended lifespan of equipment

Commercial Applications: - Manufacturers of HVAC equipment - Refrigeration companies - Industrial cooling system providers

Questions about the technology: 1. How does the unique fin design improve heat transfer efficiency?

The corrugated and connecting portions create more surface area for heat exchange, increasing efficiency.

2. What are the potential cost savings associated with using this heat exchanger design?

The improved heat transfer efficiency can lead to reduced energy consumption and lower operating costs over time.

Original Abstract Submitted

A heat exchanger includes a heat transfer tube configured to guide a refrigerant, and a plurality of fins each having a through-hole through which the heat transfer tube is vertically installed, the plurality of fins being spaced apart from each other to allow air to pass in a first direction. Each of the plurality of fins includes a corrugated portion formed in a zigzag shape in the first direction, a sheet portion surrounding the through-hole and a connecting portion connecting the sheet portion and the corrugated portion, wherein an inclined contact point, which is the highest position of the connecting portion and the corrugated portion, is located lower than a valley portion contact point, which is the lowest position of the connecting portion and the corrugated portion, in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction.
