METHOD OF PRODUCING A BATTERY MODULE AND BATTERY MODULE - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18413356 titled 'METHOD OF PRODUCING A BATTERY MODULE AND BATTERY MODULE

Simplified Explanation: The patent application describes a method for producing a battery module with prismatic battery cells or pouch cells by arranging the cells in a specific way to achieve a defined overall width.

Key Features and Innovation:

  • Method involves detecting the width of a battery cell under a defined force.
  • Battery cells are arranged adjacent to each other in the longitudinal direction of the module.
  • A compensating element is placed between two adjacent cells to ensure a defined overall width of the module.

Potential Applications: This technology can be applied in the production of various battery modules for electric vehicles, portable electronics, and energy storage systems.

Problems Solved: This method addresses the challenge of ensuring uniformity in the width of battery modules, which is crucial for their integration into different devices.

Benefits:

  • Improved consistency in battery module width.
  • Enhanced structural integrity of the battery module.
  • Increased efficiency in manufacturing processes.

Commercial Applications: The technology can be utilized in the automotive industry for electric vehicle batteries, consumer electronics for portable devices, and renewable energy storage systems.

Prior Art: Readers can explore prior research on battery module assembly techniques and methods for optimizing battery cell arrangement.

Questions about Battery Module Production: 1. How does the method ensure the uniformity of the battery module width? 2. What are the potential cost savings associated with this production method?

Original Abstract Submitted

A method for producing a battery module, having a plurality of prismatic battery cells and/or a plurality of battery cells in the form of pouch cells, includes in a first method step detecting a width of a battery cell when a defined force is applied to the respective battery cell. In a second method step, the plurality of battery cells are arranged adjacent to one another in a longitudinal direction of the battery module, and a compensating element is arranged between two battery cells arranged directly adjacent to one another. A width of the compensating element is formed in such a way that a sum of the widths of the two battery cells arranged directly adjacent to one another and the width of the compensating element has a defined value, so that ultimately the battery module has a defined overall width.
