IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS, IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD, AND STORAGE MEDIUM - A simplified explanation of the abstract

This abstract first appeared for US patent application 18402374 titled 'IMAGE PROCESSING APPARATUS, IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD, AND STORAGE MEDIUM

The apparatus described in the abstract is designed to process document images containing both ordinary character images and special character images with different dimensions.

  • The obtainment unit acquires a document image with both types of character images.
  • The enlargement unit enlarges the region containing the special character images to match the dimensions of the ordinary character images.
  • The character recognition unit then performs character recognition on the enlarged region.

Potential Applications: This technology could be used in document scanning and processing systems to improve character recognition accuracy.

Problems Solved: This technology addresses the challenge of accurately recognizing characters with different dimensions in a document image.

Benefits: The technology enhances the accuracy of character recognition in documents containing characters with varying dimensions.

Commercial Applications: Title: Enhanced Character Recognition Technology for Document Processing This technology could be valuable in industries that rely on accurate document processing, such as banking, insurance, and legal services.

Prior Art: Readers interested in prior art related to this technology could explore patents or research papers on character recognition in document processing systems.

Frequently Updated Research: Researchers in the field of document processing and character recognition may be conducting studies on improving the accuracy of recognizing characters with different dimensions.

Questions about Enhanced Character Recognition Technology for Document Processing:

1. How does this technology improve character recognition accuracy in document images? This technology enhances character recognition accuracy by enlarging special character images to match the dimensions of ordinary character images, ensuring consistent processing.

2. What are the potential applications of this technology beyond document processing? This technology could potentially be applied in fields such as image editing software or augmented reality for enhancing text recognition capabilities.

Original Abstract Submitted

An apparatus includes: an obtainment unit configured to obtain a document image at least including first character images and second character images, the first character images being ordinary character images appropriate for character recognition processing, the second character images having a different height-width ratio from a height-width ratio of the ordinary character images and having a greater size than a size of the ordinary character images; an enlargement unit configured to enlarge a target text line region including the second character images such that the height-width ratio of each of the second character images included in the target text line region is equal to the height-width ratio of the first character images; and a character recognition unit configured to perform character recognition processing on the target text line region enlarged by the enlargement unit.
